Nobody is immune to the effects of aging — not even the world’s most beautiful women. When supermodel, actress and author Christie Brinkley notices frown lines, she opts for a quick and non-invasive treatment called Xeomin. This cosmetic injectable softens lines and restores a youthful, vibrant appearance without making it look as though patients have had any work done.
“When I look in the mirror, I want to feel like I look as good as I feel. And if you can have something done to feel more confident and better about yourself, then you feel like your face matches your spirit — and my spirit is enthusiastic and energetic,” Brinkley told People magazine earlier this year.
Understanding How Xeomin Works
Xeomin is an injectable product similar to Botox in its wrinkle-reducing abilities. When injected into specific facial muscles, Xeomin blocks the transmission of signals from nerves to the muscles, temporarily relaxing the muscle. As a result, the overlying lines and wrinkles soften and the skin looks smoother. Xeomin is most often used on the glabellar (frown) lines, furrows and wrinkles around the eyes and brows.
The number of injections and amount of Xeomin required depends on the severity of the wrinkles. Generally, treatment is quick and can be completed in under an hour. Little to no downtime is required after treatment, and patients can resume their normal activities almost immediately. For these reasons, many people consider Xeomin a “lunchtime” procedure and can easily fit the appointments into their lunch break.
One drawback of Xeomin is that it may take a few days to see the full results, and the results are temporary. On average, Xeomin results last about four months. To maintain the effects of Xeomin, patients should expect to schedule Xeomin treatments every few months.
However, patients like Brinkley consider this a small price to pay for smoother, firmer and more youthful-looking skin.
