Liquid Facelift: What You Need to Know

It is no secret that many men and women wish to turn back the clock on their facial appearance. While surgical cosmetic procedures like facelift and eyelid surgery deliver incredible results, not everyone is keen on the idea of undergoing surgery. Fortunately, a non-surgical alternative exists in liquid facelift. What is a “liquid facelift,” exactly? Dr. Lloyd Landsman explains what you need to know about the procedure in this blog post.

What a Liquid Facelift Entails

Liquid facelift consists of a combination of cosmetic injectable treatments to address multiple signs of aging, including sunken or flat facial areas that have lost volume, as well as wrinkles and fine lines.

Each liquid facelift is customized to the aesthetic concerns of the patient. As such, the injectables included in each liquid facelift vary. Treatment may include injecting Botox into the muscles in the forehead to temporarily relax them and smooth out the lines and creases on the overlying skin. It also may include hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane to fill in smile lines that form around the mouth. Or, they can be used to add youthful shape and fullness to the cheeks. Certain dermal fillers can also be injected on and around the nose to hide minor cosmetic imperfections, such as a bump on the nose.

All together, these cosmetic injectables and others temporarily rejuvenate the facial features. Exactly how long results last depends on the specific injectable products used.

Advantages

Liquid facelift is an appealing option for many men and women who would prefer to avoid surgery. It offers the following benefits:

  • Quick in-office procedure (treatment typically takes less than an hour to complete)
  • No anesthesia or incisions needed
  • Minimal side effects (bruising, redness and swelling subside a few days after injection)
  • No extensive downtime needed (most patients resume normal activities the day after treatment)

Limitations

In the right candidates, liquid facelift can produce beautiful and stunning results. However, the procedure does have limitations. Liquid facelift is best for patients with mild to moderate aging signs. Results are temporary, meaning follow-up treatments are needed to maintain the effects of liquid facelift. Unlike surgical facelift, liquid facelift cannot remove loose skin. While cosmetic injectables can correct mild skin laxity, patients with severe excess skin on the cheeks, along the jawline or underneath the chin may be better suited to traditional facelift.
