Remember when your skin was firmer and tighter? Aging leads to sagging skin. While you cannot do much about the former, there are plenty of options to minimize the latter. Is your skin loose and saggy due to weight loss? Top Long Island plastic surgeon Dr. Lloyd Landsman discusses ways to eliminate sagging skin on various parts of the body.
Is the skin on your abdomen sagging due to pregnancy or weight loss? Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck, can get rid of that excess skin. It also contours the abdomen by removing excess fat, tightening the abdominal muscles and tightening the connective tissue via sutures. A similar procedure, called panniculectomy, removes large amounts of excess abdominal skin that may hang down and cover the genital area and thighs.
Keep in mind that tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure. Patients should maintain a stable weight prior to tummy tuck surgery.
Consume a healthy diet and follow an exercise regimen so that your tummy tuck results last the rest of your life.
One caveat: Women considering tummy tuck should wait until they have completed their families. While pregnancy is certainly possible after tummy tuck, it will undo much of the surgical results.
Would you like sculpted rather than saggy arms? Formally known as brachioplasty, arm lift tightens saggy skin as well as the supportive tissues. Fat pockets and excess skin are removed during the procedure. No matter how much you exercise, you may not be able to achieve the results of arm lift naturally if you have a lot of excess skin.
Unlike tummy tuck, body lift is designed to tighten loose skin around the buttocks, thighs and lower back. It is generally performed on patients who lose a substantial amount of weight. Their weight loss must prove stable for at least a year before they can consider this surgery.
Full body lift tightens the abdomen, waist, buttocks and thighs in one procedure. Mini or modified lower body lift addresses the patient’s particular sagging skin issues. For instance, a patient may undergo thigh or buttock lift if those are the areas of concern.
Results go beyond the aesthetic toward the practical. After body lift, also known as lipectomy, sagging skin that may have caused chafing is gone.
